The MRC Epidemiology Unit (www.mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk) studies the genetic, developmental and environmental determinants of obesity, type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders and contributes to their prevention. The Unit is a department within the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge and is situated in the Institute of Metabolic Science.
The Unit’s internationally recognised prevention programme aims to translate epidemiological knowledge into action to reduce the burden of type 2 diabetes and to assess the effectiveness of different approaches to primary and secondary prevention. This programme is looking to recruit a Senior Investigator Scientist on a permanent contract to play a major role in shaping the overall aims and success of the programme in consultation with the programme leader.
The post-holder will be a focus of expertise on the prevention/early detection of diabetes and its complications and will oversee the running of large scale observational studies and randomised controlled trials across multiple centres and countries. They will be able to draw on a wide range of resources within the Unit, including funded studentships and post-doctoral fellowships, access to study data and expertise in a wide range of related biomedical and public health sciences. The position is core funded with full salary and benefits that include a generous pension scheme.
